Comprehension is a brilliant way to become a good reader and a great writer! I am offering my Beginners Comprehension Booklet for free as a downloadable PDF from my TES shop.
As an English teacher, comprehension is one of those tasks that students loathe. Their perception of comprehension is boredom with long, taxing texts that they must decipher to find answers. I wanted to challenge this perception in my Beginners Comprehension Booklet.
Not only are the texts incredibly short, they are taken from interesting texts that students may have read before. Gone are the days of reading newspaper articles that students cannot relate to! In this booklet you will find short excerpts from a range of texts, “Harry Potter” and “Beowulf” to name a few.
In addition to comprehension questions, you will also find extension tasks that challenge student’s writing skills. The extension tasks are all based on creative writing and encourage students to develop their creativity.
As advertised, this is a Beginners Comprehension Booklet. High ability KS2 students and KS3 students will find this as a best fit. At the back of the booklet you will find a help sheet that has the definitions to terminology used in the booklet. Most students in KS2 and 3 will already know these terms but the help sheet is there just in case!
