Journalism has always been something that has truly interested me. The idea of being a journalist appeals a lot more than the actual reality. For any journalists amongst you, I envy but also sympathise with you.
As an English teacher, the idea of writing and researching all day is definitely enticing but this pandemic has shown me that sitting in front of a computer for hours a day is not my forté!
Teaching transactional writing is as close to journalism as being an English teacher gets! It’s always fun to get students to write about topics that they find controversial.
“Write an argument against the implementation of school uniform”
“The School Uniform Lesson” is always the most exciting for me because it gets the most amount of enthusiasm. My students always like to tell me how ridiculous school uniform is. “it’s ichy!”, “it’s unflattering”, “It’s just not my style” as just a few of the opinions that I hear year after year.
So how do I teach Transactional Writing with my students at home? I have made this revision pack to help with distance learning. Unfortunately, it will not be as fun as having a full-blown argument about the fashion faux pas of school uniform, but it does give students all the information that they need with some helpful examination tips too!
